Day 75: Resistance

Behold your perverse god, MAGA, in all his shameful perfidy and obesity.

Just a quick entry tonight, but an important one. Today, over 600,000 Americans took to the streets to peacefully protest the destructive fascism that has taken root in the nation's capital like a loathsome weed.

It is a glorious thing:

Mass Protests Across the Country Show Resistance to Trump

They came out in defense of national parks and small businesses, public education and health care for veterans, abortion rights and fair elections. They marched against tariffs and oligarchs, dark money and fascism, the deportation of legal immigrants and the Department of Government Efficiency.

Demonstrators had no shortage of causes as they gathered in towns and cities across the country on Saturday to protest President Trump’s agenda. Rallies were planned in all 50 states, and images posted on social media showed dense crowds in places as diverse as St. Augustine, Fla.; Salt Lake City and rainy Frankfort, Ky.

“Pouring rain, 43 degrees, biting wind, and people are still here in Albany in the thousands,” said Ron Marz, a comic book writer who posted a photo of the crowd at the New York State Capitol on X.

While crowd sizes are difficult to estimate, organizers said that more than 600,000 people had signed up to participate and that events also took place in U.S. territories and a dozen locations across the globe.

That's the way you do it! In the best tradition of the civil rights movement. In a way, this is a second civil rights movement as Feurer Trump and his reichsmarschalls are waging war on our rights, even going so far as to say that the right to a judicial hearing is too inconvenient to apply to everyone.

It was a wintery day here in the Big Apple - wet and cold - so such a massive turnout, one that stressed twenty city blocks, is a testament to how angry the non-billionaire class is at what they are witnessing. Angry and embarrassed. Imagine how large these protests might become when the balmy days of summer arrive!

Here's a thought: if the domestic situation deteriorates as badly as I expect, these weekend protests might transform into weekday protests - in other words, a general strike, as often seen in Europe and, most recently, in Israel in reaction to Netanyahu's power grab for the judiciary.  Trump hasn't learned what co-criminal Elon Musk is starting to understand, which is to say that when the people of America are mad, they will sit on their wallets and financially wreck their billionaire oppressors.  After all, a business isn't much of a business without any customers. Just ask the Orange Mussolini about his many failed ventures (Trump Steak, Vodka, Magazine, a few casinos...the list extends to six bankruptcies). That is the beauty of the free market: it empowers people by giving them a say, via their spending, in the economic life of a nation. Of course, this is also why the Trump administration is leaning toward a command economy mentality, something that only a few pundits have noticed.

(It no longer needs to be stated that this is no longer the free market Republican party of decades past. It now practices both politics and economics in a fashion more representative of the old Soviet system sans the doctrinaire Marxism. In other words, the GOP has passed from conservative to revolutionary politics, something Trump made explicitly clear earlier today when he posted, "THIS IS AN ECONOMIC REVOLUTION". What more needs to be said?)

It was a good day for America.  Just a start, mind you, but a good start. There is much work left to be done.
